Danger Keep Them Away! (2003) |
|
”Zory's piece at the Sanctuary exhibition in the Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art, for example, was a powerfully bleak installation of individual human heads made out of latex chained in a line together with safety pins. Each head may be different but linked together they become disembodied objects removed not only from their own bodies but also from any social or indeed human context (see illustration). They are targets of immigration control: Danger! Keep them Away! works, as the title of the piece, to inform the viewer in the West that this particular chain-gang is something about which the mainstream ‘we' should be fearful”. (Alex Rotas; Representing the pain of displacement: three visual artists bear witness) |
